Hunterville, located in Penryn, California and owned by trainer Patty Ball, specializes in Equitation, Hunters and Jumpers. We are proud of our reputation of excellence in the training of horses and the education of riders of all ages.
About Us
After purchasing the land for Hunterville in 1980, Patty Ball went on to build the beautiful, park-like facility it is today. Over the past 35 years, Patty has continued to build her business and her reputation as an outstanding trainer and teacher. Producing high quality horses and riders has always been the goal, and as a result, many champion horses and riders have been produced, including some of California's most successful trainers. Always in pursuit of excellence and improving our industry, we host clinics each year to bring the best horsemen in the world to Hunterville to share their knowledge with all in Northern California.Patty Ball was nationally recognized in 2016 for her exceptional teaching skills by winning the Jane Marshall Dillion perpetual trophy.
Kristie LaFreniere, trainer at Hunterville, is a seasoned industry professional with more than 20 years of instructional experience. A lifelong competitive rider and graduate of Colorado State University's prestigious Equine Sciences department, Kristie brings unsurpassed industry knowledge, a talent for teaching and a deep passion for training horses to her position at Hunterville.
Training & Lessons
We focus on developing solid horsemanship skills resulting in better communication and understanding between horse and rider. Our full board and training program includes both lessons and training rides. We offer daily turnout, weather permitting, in our spacious, single horse paddocks. Services include twice daily stall cleaning, blanketing, three feedings per day with high quality feed and supplements tailored to the horses needs, to keep our horses healthy and performing at their best. We have a beautiful large arena with many types of jumps, including a large bank, and other natural obstacles to train both you and your horse. We also have a sound system to assist with lessons and clinics to ensure you can hear instruction throughout our large training arena. Our 280’ x 280’ arena, with entrance and exit to ride out over hills and cross country course, can handle a large number of riders and prepare you and your horse for anything that you might encounter at a show or event. A separate lunging area is available to work horses. Our three barns provide our equine guests with spacious stalls with windows several wash racks and plenty of grooming cross ties for tacking up. We have a beautiful, custom designed main barn with a magnificent viewing deck that is the largest in the area. We also feature an indoor, state of the art, 8-horse exerciser with a 65' covered indoor riding arena in the center. Our horses receive daily turnout in our large single horse paddocks.As an added bonus, Hunterville is adjacent to Taylor Ranch Nature Reserve which offers extensive and beautiful horse trails.
